Hi all, sorry me again. Just wondered if a rash on lower legs need looking at? It has come and gone over the last week. Its red, and lots of spots altogether on front and back of calves.
Also just lately, have lost my appetite (not a bad thing weight wise!!) and cant seem to fancy anything. I have cereal in the morning, but at lunch time I try to eat a sandwich but just cant, and end up giving most of it to the little ones. Even evening meal is becoming a problem, and I am having toast or more ceral. Just wondering if it could be any of the meds? Thanks everyone xSad

Hi Sophie, hadnt thought of the sun protector. Used it on arms neck etc but forgot about legs. I have been wearing leggings or crop cotton trs. Not diagnosed with lupus, but do get the butterfly rash. All tests come back negative, and when I brought photos of rashes, he said he has to see it himself. I also got the rash when having my eyes tested, the lights were strong, and a small room, so face and hands all came up.
Not sure if its due to that, but who knows?
Thanks for the reply Sophie xSmile

Hi Barbara,

Can't help with the rash but I also have a loss of appetite. I have just taken my seventh dose of MTX and have found a pattern emerging, for approximately three days after taking the tablets my appetite is poor, the it goes back to normal.

Hi Annie, I dont think its the mtx, as I take in on Friday evening, and its been like this since before I took the last dose. I do know it can make you feel sick etc but I have been on it since July 2009 and have been ok, am currently on 20mg

factor 50.
also same for lupus.
and apetite id say more likely regarding level pain your in ra can decrease apetite when more active.

Hi Barbara,

I came out in a rash very similar to what you describe, when first on the meds was never sure which one triggered it, but had to stop all and re start again. After which I have had no problems. Mine started with the legs then spread on my arms then middle. Slowly disappeared on stopping the tabs. Then re introduce bit at a time. What are your doctors saying hope you get it sorted soon. Hi Lorna, thanks for the information. Will call gp on Monday and ask for appt. Have re read the mtx info and says that red dot rash can be a side efect, but have been on them since July 2009, so seems odd if its them. The newest med is the sulfasalazine, I take 3 per day since April 16th so maybe its them? It has died down a bit on right leg, but still quite angry on left one. Still feeling rubbish though, but at least its the weekend, so can rest now. Smile

Hi Barbara - sorry to hear things are so rough. I also had a rash with the Sulpha but it was on my hips and thighs and was itchy. I hope you are managing to get some rest this weekend.

Smile Hello Brbas not itchy is good at least not making you uncomfy,i got rash on feet lower legs also rheumy has seen it and for me its like blood under skin, small red dots.
not been given any clue what it is exactly but told is lupus for me i may be pushing see a dermy at some point regarding rashes wonder if youd thought doing that to.

sorry you such pain can see why but as u said rheumy needs see you without steriods in system id encourage you follow his reasoning.i suspect he may be wanting see if you qualify for anti tnf so therefore hed need see more swelling.
sametime imsure others also ahd steriods while having assesments for anti tnf you said had das score done so that means i suspect he may do another das need have 2 done to qualify pass both certain level to be assessed if get my drift, did for me at that time i had less swelling.grr

as u if im correct need fail 2 dmards re not working.
anyway hope im not going on .......

anyway put feet up as say go on as normal with bit more rest i hope,or il be telling you off kindly.

catch up in week lv mellySmile

Hi Julie and Melly, thanks for replies, the rash has raised red dots, and then seems to sort of blend together. Oh well, no point worrying now. I know you will be telling me off, I am telling myself off!! At the moment I think I must be crazy to keep working. When on the pred it was easier, even on lower dose made a difference. Rested today, so feeling better, back still hurting but not so bad now. Have another easy day tomorrow, we are meeting Leanne's boyfriend for the first time and having a meal for Father's Day. Hope he can cope with us lol!!!Smile

I started to take sulpa........May 2008.

Last July when I was in Spain I noticed a rash on the bottom of my legs, near the ankles. I first noticed it on my right leg, it looked like really bad prickly heat rash, but the other leg was much, much worse. I remembered that I had read somewhere that sulpa...can bring you out in a rash and if it happened to stop taking the drug. It was the day before I came home so I stopped taking them and phoned my nurse as soon as I got home. She told me not to worry and if it had been a reaction to the tablets it would of happened straight away and not over a year later.

I had an appointment with the consultant a week later and I showed him my legs, the rash had calmed down but the skin was darker where it had been. Hr told me that the sulpa......... had made my skin photo-sensitive to the sun. I must add that I do always put on sun screen when I go to Spain or out in the sun.

I still think that you should go to see your doctor, just to be on the safe side.

Hi

I would see a dr and ask for your thyroid to be checked. Overactive thyroid gland will make you loose appetite and get leg rashes. Thyroid screening should be no 1 on the list I would suggest as thyroid issues often go hand in hand with RA, Fibro and Lupus like conditions. It is serious but can be simply treated just check things through with the gp on monday. You will need a THR test as well as T4 and T5 ideally.

Take a look at this website

http://www.thyroiduk.org...diagnosis/gp_visit.html

Helpful sint it?

you can get a lupus rash on the legs that is bumpy and it could be this, a sort of vasculitis or it could even be a pericarditis. There are lots of "could be" type things- must see GP....

Thanks Paula. I have been on sulfa since April, and not had problems before, but will check it out with gp. Jenni, so glad you are doing so well on the cimzia. I am on thyroxine as I had partial thyroidectomy in 1986, and have regular blood tests to check it, so shouldnt be that. I know rashes can mean various things, and will get it checked. Jean, will definitely get it looked at. Thanks everyone x
